20 - 22 Feb 2020 | The Self Compassion Break Retreat at Temenos with Karen Nebe
Updated: Feb 27, 2020
“Lasting healing comes from being curious rather than controlling, from mercy rather than manipulation, from responding rather than reacting. It is about opening what has been closed, reclaiming what has been hidden, and remembering what has been forgotten.”
Move Into The New Decade With Curiosity And Courage
This is an invitation to choose courage over comfort - to give yourself permission to be vulnerable, let your guard down, declare yourself a learner and embrace the uncertainty of the new year. And to do this with self-compassion and through creativity. “Creativity embeds knowledge so that it can become practice. We move what we’re learning from our heads to our hearts through our hands. We are born makers, and creativity is the ultimate act of integration — it is how we fold our experiences into our being… The Asaro tribe of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea has a beautiful saying: “Knowledge is only a rumour until it lives in the muscle.”
Self-Compassion - fierce, fearless compassion - with courage, curiosity and trust in basic goodness helps us to see possibilities we might not have otherwise imagined or ever thought possible. Research has shown that practicing mindful self-compassion decreases stress, anxiety, depression and is essential to cultivating resilience and a more fulfilling life.
Join us for #TheSelfCompassionBreak at Temenos Retreat in McGregor. Through Creative Guiding, gentle movement, conversation, reflection and mindful self-compassion exercises you will re-connect with your full potential. You will leave feeling calm and centred - with practical tools which will enable you to choose the great adventure of being courageous and fearful at the same time as you move through a new decade.
More about Creative Guiding:
In a nurturing environment Karen gently nudges and steers the art making. She draws on inspiration from nature and its elements, stories, poetry and other stimuli. The emphasis is on the experience of creating, developing and reflecting through the artwork and not on the finished product. An invitation to let go of expectations and be curious about whatever emerges.
Feedback from previous participants:
“I realised that you designed a very safe place but more importantly you purposely created a space where everyone felt protected. Your gift is that you make each of us feel safe and you are emotionally intelligent enough to encourage each of us, with our vastly different personalities, to be open to each other.” ~ GW
“I really enjoyed the way you arranged the dance between the art and the self-compassion, how you gently led the processes and were so authentic and vulnerable yourself.” ~ BB
“I benefited immensely, I was able to create my artwork without prejudice. What I created is how I feel at the moment. It helped me to empty my loaded self, get rid of some baggage. I loved the way Karen led the entire session, she was inclusive, she made sure everyone was following, the way she set out the space was outstanding”. ~ SN
“The art-making processes were extremely helpful in my personal journey. The way in which the activities themselves were thought out created a flow and development process. The interaction between the group was inspiring and completely pure and beautiful.” ~ ERL
