4 - 6 June 2021 | #TheSelfCompassionBreak

The only constant in life is change. The seasons come and go, the sun rises and sets. Flowers bloom and die. Our thoughts come and go. We are born, grow, and eventually die. We can plan, we can care for, tend and respond, however, we cannot control. Instead we can PAUSE, take a breath, and open to what is unfolding, right where we are. When we are quiet, we can rest in loving awareness and see our true nature from the heart of understanding. When we accept that change is inevitable, and find our composure in that knowledge, we can re-enter the river of experience. This is a profound shift, from holding on, to letting go and moving into acceptance. We then make space for something new. This is an invitation to open yourself to that which is unfolding - AND to do this with self-compassion.

Self-Compassion - fierce, fearless compassion - with courage, curiosity and trust in basic goodness helps us to see possibilities we might not have otherwise imagined or ever thought possible.

Creative Guiding centres on the creative process and journey of making art rather than the finished product. Karen Nebe gently nudges and guides art-making in a supportive environment. She draws on inspiration from nature and its elements, stories, poetry and other stimuli.

The emphasis is on the experience of creating, developing and reflecting. There is a deepening of self awareness in which one's thinking does not override the process of spontaneity and creativity. It’s about an inward exploration, being in the present moment, letting go of expectations and being curious about whatever emerges. No art experience is required.

Charmaine Horsburgh is a Yoga practitioner who met her teacher, Swami Venkatesananda of Rishikesh, India in the early 1970’s and began a lifelong journey of yoga study, practice and investigation. The culture of learning which Swamiji encouraged has led her to constantly be looking for ways to deepen and inform her own practice and teaching skills. Charmaine now incorporates the cutting edge postural alignment techniques of the Bowspring into the yoga classes that she offers. It has been her great good fortune to learn from, and keep on learning from, the co-founders of this beneficial system, Desi Springer and John Friend.
